“In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.” ___ Albert Einstein
|The quality and success of advanced education programmes is often measured in terms of the employability of their students and ultimately in terms of their contribution to the success of the business their graduates end up in. A second yardstick is the ability of the programme to actively participate in and positively contribute to the development of public and private sector initiatives.|
|‘Innovation’ addresses “the development of new values through solutions that meet new needs; conversely, it may be looking at existing customer and market needs but in value adding new ways”. In both cases it is particularly crucial to minimize the gap between practice and theory to come up with solutions that are relevant, practical and nimble. Established businesses, business models and entrepreneurs often have difficulties dealing with changing environments and changes in technology. The expansion of (social) media, for example, with its instantaneous information dissemination has ‘created’ a much better informed, more sophisticated customer thereby requiring all aspects of the business to develop new skills and perspectives.|
